DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIRECT CARE WORKER

This part-time role works a flexible schedule depending on our participants' needs. The ability to work 8-hour shifts would be preferred.

As a Direct Care Worker, you provide critical daily living and vocational support to our program participants. You can expect a dynamic role where you perform a wide range of services depending on each participant's needs and individual service plan (ISP). While every day is a little different, your duties typically revolve around promoting independence and achieving set goals. This may include helping with work readiness and job placement, facilitating recreational activities and community outings, and teaching socialization skills. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Competence in areas such as CPR, First Aid, behavioral management, and medication administration
  • Ability to redirect maladaptive behaviors and model the appropriate behavior
  • Proficiency with computers and programs like MS Word and Excel
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Rhode Island driver's license, good driving record, and reliable vehicle that can transport clients
  • Patient demeanor, strong communication skills, and attention to detail

While not required, these preferred criteria would give you a leg up:

  • 2+ years of experience working in a community setting with people with disabilities
  • 1+ years of experience as a direct support professional
  • Undergraduate degree in a field such as social work, psychology, or occupational rehabilitation OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
