QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School education or GED
  • 2+ years of work experience (preferred)
  • Commitment to providing high-quality services to individuals with disabilities in community and residential settings
  • Ability to be medication certified (AMAP) and successfully complete Easterseals NY Rochester required training and obtaining the associated certificates
  • Valid driver's license for use in regular transportation of program participants

A TYPICAL DAY

The expected schedule for this caregiver position is Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 3 pm.

As a School Based Healthcare Professional - DSP, you work closely with individuals facing various disabilities and challenging behaviors, including physical aggression and verbal assault. Your responsibilities include assisting with educational programming, maintaining a well-equipped classroom, and interacting effectively with students. You have a strong knowledge of Individual Education Programs (IEP) and assist with behavior management, following established plans and policies. Collaboration and communication with the professional team are essential, and you also support a community of learners.

Additionally, you implement individual plans, providing daily supervision and care to residents in certified homes, and creating a safe, comfortable environment that fosters skill acquisition and community inclusion. Your tasks range from meal preparation to vehicle safety. Ensuring access to essential needs and attending meetings and training are part of the role, as is maintaining thorough documentation and upholding a positive work environment.

You're also called upon to handle emergency situations and provide toileting and personal care when necessary. In this position, professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality are paramount, as is adherence to program and agency policies. You transport students, maintain vehicle safety, and report maintenance issues promptly. Your dedication to ensuring the well-being of those you serve is crucial!
