TOTS, a member of the FEDCAP group with Easterseals New York, is currently hiring for a full-time Preschool Assistant Teacher to help our classroom teachers engage our students and provide the best educational experience possible in the New York, NY area. DAY-TO-DAY

This full-time role in early childhood education works during the day.

As a Preschool Assistant Teacher with our human services nonprofit, you work under the supervision of the classroom teacher. You assist in caring for the physical and emotional needs of students with special needs. If a teacher is involved with other activities, you have the opportunity to supervise the classroom. While in this teaching role, you order supplies for the classroom and work alongside coworkers to design programs under the guidance of the classroom teacher and Coordinator of Education. Ensuring the daily completion of the time-out log is very important. You confidently perform residential responsibilities as required for days when school is not in session. Using your exceptional organization skills, you develop extracurricular activities, supervise work sites, and implement recreational activities for students and the community.

With your caring heart, you provide services to students with varied behavioral issues which may include, physical aggression, verbal assault, inappropriate sexual comments, gestures, and acts. Patience is key to your success. You maintain genuine relationships with your students and are aware of individual educational and behavioral plans that you helped to develop. You know that by working with our human services nonprofit, you are making a difference in the lives of those you interact with. REQUIREMENTS FOR A PRESCHOOL ASSISTANT TEACHER

  • High school education or GED
  • Two years of practical experience working with children
  • Level I NYS Teacher Assistant Certification

A Bachelor's degree in early childhood education is preferred but we are willing to take all qualifications into account.
