A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EARLY CHILDHOOD / SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

As an Early Childhood and Special Education Teacher with our nonprofit, you're responsible for designing a classroom environment both motivating and stimulating for students. You provide daily written lesson plans in book form and store the book in an accessible location at the school in case of an absence. Throughout the school year, you maintain periodic progress scales and attend case conferences for each student. You also implement a behavioral system as approved by the treatment team and necessary protocols as well as assure that accurate attendance records are maintained and submitted correctly at the end of the school year.

In addition, you attend various school-specific or parent meetings and submit monthly reports to the appropriate parties. You develop working relationships with assigned professionals and assist in coordinating therapeutic activities for your students. As needed, you also help organize and supervise extracurricular activities and serve as a mentor to the aides assigned to your classroom. QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN EARLY CHILDHOOD / SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Birth to 2nd certification for students with disabilities
  • Eligible for a teaching certification OR enrolled in a program leading to certification
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements of the appropriate state Board of Education
