A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GENERAL MANAGER

As a General Manager, you oversee both the food service and housekeeping departments at the camp. Your role requires you to plan, develop, implement, and revise organizational policies and goals. You measure the performance of assigned activities and implement a system of supervision.

You negotiate and interpret the terms of various contracts and ensure internal compliance. In this camp management role, you also direct and coordinate the promotion of new services. You work to maintain business reports, administrative matters, or materials such as budgets, budget expenditures, operational reports, cost analysis, and operational documentation. Meticulously, you track financial data, reports, forecasts, and expenditures to achieve optimum efficiency, the economy of operations, and maximize profits.

A natural leader, you direct, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned personnel to keep them informed and motivated. You plan and implement an effective staff training program and ensure that all team members understand their jobs. You also help with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and rewarding employees. It's a job with a lot of responsibility, but you're up to the task. You love leading our team to greatness!


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A GENERAL MANAGER

Here's what you need for this camp management role:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2+ years of formal college training related to the business field (candidates without any college must have two additional years of related managerial experience)
  • 5+ years of related service-based, hospitality, food service, housekeeping, hotel, or remote camp management experience that includes 2+ years of significant overall supervisory responsibilities for a distinct business operation/enterprise
  • Reliable and dependable attendance in a remote setting
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy
  • Proficiency in operating Microsoft Office applications
  • Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include criminal and driving background checks and UA drug tests.
  • Ability to cooperate and work as part of a team with coworkers, customers, and clients
  • Ability to make decisions in the moment without supervision
  • Ability to be on your feet for 12 hours per shift
  • Ability to live in dormitory-style settings and meet the cleanliness requirements of the camp
  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English
  • Meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to arctic conditions.

Noise level: Moderate to loud

Description of environment: Remote camp setting. Employees must constantly be able to stand, sit, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and may be exposed to toxic or caustic

chemicals.

Travel: Must be able to travel by plane or bus to remote camps.

Physical requirements: Must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 lbs.
