This social services position with our nonprofit earns a competitive wage of $20 - $21 per hour, depending on experience. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP)

n

As a social services professional, you play an essential role in working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a group home setting. You are responsible for providing the necessary support to enhance the quality of life for the individuals we serve while following specified individual service plans (ISP). Most of your day is spent assisting individuals with their personal needs, which includes lifting them in and out of wheelchairs as well as helping with self-care and hygiene. You interact respectfully with each person and promote their own individual freedom and choices. By providing support, you help them maintain their personal property as well as promote new activities, socialization, and community engagement.

In addition, you interact with other staff members and supervisors as well as provide additional support wherever it's needed. Each day you come to the group home, you make sure you're aware of any new programmatic concerns or status issues for the individuals you work with. You stay informed of our emergency protocols in case of a crisis as well as ensure that the facility remains clean and all supplies are organized. Safety is of the utmost importance, and you make sure that the well-being of the individual you work with is always a priority. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP)

  • At least 18 years old
  • n
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
  • n
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire
  • n
  • Desire to work with people with intellectual disabilities
  • n

Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred. A valid driver's license and willingness to become a company driver would be a plus. Do you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? Can you remain calm and easily adapt to new situations? Do you enjoy working in a team environment?
