YOUR ROLE AS AN APPLIANCE TECHNICIAN

As an Appliance Technician, you handle the installation, repair, and maintenance of the commercial equipment in our camp including appliances, HVAC equipment, electric air handling units, exhaust fans, pneumatic lines, and more. Throughout the day, you can be found inspecting and calibrating the HVAC equipment. You're able to diagnose and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

You like working with your hands - a good thing, as you provide HVAC hands-on repair and troubleshooting. With careful attention to detail, you troubleshoot and diagnose airflow problems, monitor glycol pressures, and inspect coil conditions. When filter changes are needed, you hop right in and get to it. After troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing, you take the time to test everything. You feel great knowing you've done a fantastic job of maintaining and repairing our camp's equipment and keeping things running smoothly!


ARE YOU THE APPLIANCE TECHNICIAN WE'RE LOOKING FOR?

  • High school diploma or GED
  • EPA Universal certification to work on refrigerant systems
  • 5+ years of experience working in a commercial or industrial setting
  • HVAC hands-on repair and troubleshooting proficiency in commercial and industrial settings
  • Ensure compliance with EPA.
  • Use the Annual Preventative Air Conditioning Maintenance checklists provided or by manufacturers specifications.
  • Ability to perform maintenance on various types of heating systems
  • Basic knowledge of low to high voltage, 3-phase wiring principles, and how to read a schematic
  • Ability to write detailed, descriptive reports on HVAC equipment and required repairs (CFC reports required by the client, etc).
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy
  • Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include but are not limited to drug tests, physical and fit-for-duty assessments, and hearing tests. Applicants not located near a testing facility are responsible for paying for travel to the nearest testing facility.
  • Able to work independently and prioritize workload
  • Able to cooperate and work as part of a team with coworkers, customers, and clients
  • Must be able to make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
  • Able to be on your feet for 12 hours per shift
  • Able to live in dormitory-style settings and meet the cleanliness requirements of the camp
  • Able to speak, understand, read, and write English
  • Meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company/client.

CANDIDATES OUTSIDE ANCHORAGE:

Candidates in Alaska and the lower 48 for any contract: For the purposes of pre-employment testing, Anchorage is considered the point of hire (except for drug testing, which is conducted near the candidate's place of residence). The employee is responsible for travel expenses and needed accommodations related to pre−employment tasks that need to be completed in Anchorage. This includes safety training requirements, required pre−employment testing or training such as physical, DOT physical/medical card, fit for duty, audiogram, or other testing required by contract/company (NSTC, APICC training, security licensing requirements, etc.).

Candidates in Alaska for Alyeska Contract: pre-employment testing is scheduled near the candidate's area of residence within the state. The only exception is when the candidate lives in a region without the necessary service providers to complete all requirements.

Flights to Remote Locations: All employees are responsible for expenses related to reporting to point of hire (Anchorage) for scheduled trips paid for by the company for remote locations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to arctic conditions.

Noise level: Moderate to loud

Description of environment: Remote camp setting. Employees must constantly be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Travel: Must be able to travel by plane or bus to remote camps.

Physical requirements: Fit For Duty Test

  • Lift: Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle x2
  • Lift: Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist x 2
  • Lift: Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders x 2
  • Push: push horizontally with a peak force of 75 f-lbs. with two hands.
  • Stoop & Twist: Perform alternate cross-over toe touches x 10 on each side, self-paced but continuous.
  • Squat Test: Functionally squat x 5, self-paced but continuous.
  • Kneel: Kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneel on the opposite knee. Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 10 for each knee, self-paced but continuous.
  • Stairs: Climb up and down 12 steps x 5 for a total of 60 steps. Allow 30 seconds to rest after climbing up and down each set of 30 steps.
  • Stairs & Carry: Climb up and down 12 steps x 2 for a total of 24 steps while carrying 40 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced but continuous. Allow a 30-second rest period after climbing up and down 12 steps while carrying.
  • Slanted Ladder: Climb a slanted ladder with 8 rungs x 8 repetitions for a total of 64 rungs. Allow 30-second rests after each climb (up and down) of 16 rungs, self-paced.
  • Shovel: Perform a shovel test for three (3) minutes self-paced but continuous (i.e., no breaks) using a standard snow shovel with a 3 lb. weight attached to the shovel blade. (e.g. sandbag weight securely taped to the shovel blade.)
