YOUR DAY AS A HOSPITAL COOK

As a Hospital Cook, your days are busy and exciting. You spend most of your time in the kitchen, cooking culinary delights such as soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other dishes of restaurant quality. Patients, staff members, and guests of our healthcare center are certainly grateful for your culinary abilities!

Food safety is a top priority, and you always make sure the cooking and food service areas are kept sanitary. Cooking, cleaning, and making sure everyone is well-fed gives you great satisfaction - you love that you're doing such important work in the healthcare industry!


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A HOSPITAL COOK

Required:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • An Alaska food handler's card and ServSafe contingent upon 30 days of hire
  • 1+ years of work experience or documented vocational training sufficient to demonstrate a knowledge of cleaning equipment, food preparation, and general cleaning processes for this type of work
  • Ability to follow standardized written recipes
  • Proficiency using the following equipment: steam tables, dish machine, trash carts, knives, ovens, slicers, mixers, grills, grinders, fryers, broilers, flat tops, counter mixers, roasting ovens, and kettles.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprinting background investigation that complies with The Crime Control Act, Child Care Worker Act, and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act
  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English
  • Proof of immunization for TB, and any other immunizations and screenings designated for this contract
  • Contract requires candidate to get a flu shot pre-hire and annually thereafter.
  • Contractor may be required to maintain all employee health records on site.
  • This contract requires COVID-19 vaccination.

Background Requirement:

  • One or more felonies or two or more misdemeanors of crimes against persons or crimes of violence.
  • Any crime against a child, dependent adult, or vulnerable person, regardless of its classification as a felony, misdemeanor, or other type of offense.
  • Any sex crime, regardless of its classification as a felony, misdemeanor, or other type of offense.
  • Murder.

Preferred:

  • Previous food service, cooking, or hospitality industry experience

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors: environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: Moderate

Description of environment: An industrial hospital kitchen located in a healthcare setting.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

WORK SCHEDULE FOR A HOSPITAL COOK

This full-time culinary position typically works a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off, 10 hours per day. We provide lodging and meals!
