A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CATERING FOOD SERVICE WORKER

As a Catering Food Service Worker, you are vital to our mission of caring for guests and patrons of the Fairbanks airport. Coming in for your shift, you perform a variety of duties, including cleaning, preparing food, stocking inventory, and handling cash. Customer-service oriented, you assist our customers with food and beverage orders and inquiries. There's always a smile on your face as you serve!

You brew a wide variety of specialty coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. At times, you have the opportunity to help make sandwiches, hot dogs, and other simple meals. With attention to detail, you operate the cash register to record prices, compile printed lists, and display costs. You enthusiastically act as a cashier, totaling order prices and accepting payments. At the end of your shift, you remove and record the amount of cash in the register. You love working in the airport and interacting with travelers!


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CATERING FOOD SERVICE WORKER

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Observes extensive grooming, customer service, and uniform/dress standards.
  • Alaska food worker's card is preferred, required to obtain within 30 days if not in hand when applying.
  • TAMS card preferred.
  • The ability to work effectively with a minimum of supervision.
  • An ability to quickly learn about the products being sold, cash register operation, site features, and NMS's customer service expectations/standards.
  • Dedication to understanding and exceeding customer expectations/needs.
  • Recognition that service is a demonstrated attitude and a state of mind, not a task or step.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
