A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SECURITY GUARD - SAFETY OFFICER

As a Security Guard - Safety Officer, you have the important role of ensuring the health, safety, and security of a variety of business clients in a public environment at the Alaska Railroad and surrounding areas. You get to patrol a large area of property, both by driving and on foot, and occasionally travel by train, which adds an extra thrill to the job. Your role also involves examining doors, windows, and other areas to ensure they are secure, reporting unusual occurrences, and responding to emergencies to preserve life and property.

You love having a variety of tasks to keep you busy, as you check systems like heating and lighting to make sure they are operational, issue and record ID badges, assist with responding to various emergencies, and occasionally de-escalate situations. Overall, your role is a dynamic and rewarding one where you get to make a real impact on people's safety and well-being!


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SECURITY GUARD - SAFETY OFFICER

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3+ years of security, law enforcement, or military experience
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy
  • Ability to obtain and pay the Alaska Guard License fee of $97.00 prior to beginning work
  • Must qualify and obtain an Alaska Armed Guard License.
  • Ability to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers, and clients
  • Ability to make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision
  • Ability to be on your feet for 8-12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation
  • Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read, and write English.
  • Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.
  • Must be safety oriented as this is a safety-sensitive position.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.

Noise level: Moderate to loud

Must constantly be able to stand, sit, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

Physical requirements: Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
