YOUR DAY AS A FOOD SERVICE AND FACILITIES MANAGER

As a Food Service and Facilities Manager, you direct a high-quality and cost-effective industrial kitchen operation for the Nome public schools. Efficient, cost-effective management is the name of the game, and you excel at it! You direct daily operations including menu planning, completing special food orders, handling inventory, preparing meals, and storing food. You also support and monitor our safety program.

Providing supervision for the school kitchen team, you assist with meal preparation. A natural leader, you direct, train, supervise, evaluate, and coach all assigned personnel. With you at the helm, we're able to continuously improve the quality of our provided services. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FOOD SERVICE AND FACILITIES MANAGER

Can you effectively prioritize and delegate multiple tasks? Do you have strong leadership and decision-making skills? Are you flexible and willing to help out where needed? If yes, you might just be perfect for this kitchen management position!

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Alaska Food Handler's Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of hire
  • 3+ years of experience as a food service manager in a restaurant, K-12, or relevant food service setting. This experience must also demonstrate knowledge of proper food service sanitation methods and equipment, supervisory skills, leadership skills, and food preparation quality control procedures.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy
  • Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read, and write English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to those with a culinary associate degree or in a related field.
  • 5+ years of consecutive employment in similar operations with comparable responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of food and catering trends
  • Preference will also be given to those with prior work experience in a high-production setting.

Frequently required to walk and stand. Occasionally required to lift, pull and push. Rarely in cramped or confined spaces and climbing.

Physical requirements: Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Travel: Employee may travel up to 25% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs. Travel is coordinated by NMS.
