A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FOOD SERVICE KITCHEN SUPERVISOR

As a Food Service Kitchen Supervisor, you're responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction at our college campus dining facility. Efficient, cost-effective management is the name of the game, and you excel at it. You direct daily operations including menu planning, purchasing, completing the inventory, preparing meals, and storing food. Passionate about food safety and sanitation, you make sure we're always ready for inspections.

Providing supervision for the culinary team, you assist with meal preparation. Under your leadership, they are well-trained and knowledgeable about all food handling within the kitchen. You use your excellent supervisory skills to provide positive and constructive feedback to employees. You also establish a safe work environment for everyone. Seeing the smiles of our customers as they enjoy our amazing culinary dishes makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, which is why you love your job!

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Municipality of Anchorage Food Handler's Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of hire
• Culinary associates degree or a degree in a related field
• At least three (3) years of experience in a key leadership role overseeing a minimum of 20 employees
• Five (5) years of consecutive employment in a food service operation
• A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and detailed information to multiple audiences with differing knowledge levels. The role may require strong negotiation and influence, communication with large groups or high-level constituents, representation of the organization, advanced tact, and diplomacy, etc.
• Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in food services/management

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors, environmentally controlled.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate.

Description of environment: This is a cafeteria environment located on a university campus setting.

Physical requirements: Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Infrequently required to sit, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
