A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MAINTENANCE PLUMBER

As a Maintenance Plumber, you make sure our plumbing systems are always kept in excellent condition! You maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various piping systems, heating systems, boiler room appliances, furnaces, and other industrial plumbing systems. You also repair and install equipment associated with water and wastewater pumping, storage, and distribution systems. Working with other maintenance technicians, you troubleshoot malfunctions and create repair plans to fix any problems. If you ever notice that safety and sanitation standards are not being met, you're quick to notify the supervisor.

With attention to detail, you study building plans to determine any work aids that may be required, along with the sequence of installations. You're a team player and love to assist other technicians, regardless of the trade. Every day brings new general maintenance duties, and you like having a wide range of tasks in a variety of locations. You take pride in keeping our facilities safe and in good repair!


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A MAINTENANCE PLUMBER

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must have at least four (4) years of verifiable industrial plumbing experience which demonstrates knowledge of water distribution systems, wastewater systems, gas distribution systems, pressure devices, and gas heating systems.
  • A state of Alaska journeyman plumbers certificate of fitness is highly desirable.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy
  • Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include but are not limited to: Background investigation, SIDA security clearance, criminal record check, drug test, physical and fit for duty assessment, and hearing test.
  • Must be able to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers, and clients.
  • Must be able to make decisions at the moment with little to no supervision.
  • Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read, and write English.
  • Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.
  • Must be willing to travel routinely by commercial airline within Alaska.
  • Regular day shift, M-F but the position will involve rotating night weekend emergency calls out on a needed basis.
  • Assist other maintenance technicians, regardless of skill set/trade
  • This position may require approximately 75% travel out of the Anchorage area to multiple Alaskan cities. Overnight stays may be required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to arctic conditions.

Noise level: moderate to loud

Description of environment: This is a remote camp setting. Employees must constantly be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch. Employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Travel: Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.

Physical requirements: Fit for Duty Test

  • Lift: Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle x2
  • Lift: Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist x 2
  • Lift: Lift 25 lbs. from floor to shoulders x 2
  • Carry: Carry 50 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 25 feet.
  • Push: push horizontally with a peak force of 100 f-lbs. with two hands.
  • Pull: Pull horizontally with a peak force of 100 f-lbs. with two hands
  • Stoop & Twist: Perform alternate cross-over toe touches x 10 on each side, self-paced but continuous.
  • Squat Test: Functionally squat x 10, self-paced but continuous.
  • Kneel: Kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneel on the opposite knee. Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 10 for each knee, self-paced but continuous.
  • Stairs: Climb up and down 10 steps x 10 for a total of 100 steps, allow a 30-second rest after climbing up and down each set of 50 steps, self-paced.
  • Stairs & Carry: Climb up and down 10 steps x 5 for a total of 50 steps while carrying 20 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced.
  • Allow a 30-second rest period after 25 steps.
  • Slanted Ladder: Climb a slanted ladder with 6 rungs x 6 repetitions for a total of 36 rungs, self-paced but continuous.

WORK SCHEDULE FOR A MAINTENANCE PLUMBER
