A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

As a Maintenance Technician, you keep our facilities in excellent repair! You perform skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment, including testing and replacing circuits, troubleshooting defective switches, fixing receptacles, and working on ballasts. General repair tasks come to you as well - things like repairing doors, windows, roofs, drywall, carpet, flooring, or other building equipment. Exceptionally handy, you assemble furniture and help with painting, drywall installation, concrete repair, and more.

Every day brings something new, and you like the challenge of performing a range of tasks. You conduct safety inspections as needed and work to ensure timely follow-up to needed repairs. You take pride in keeping our facilities beautiful and safe!


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Advanced electrical knowledge is required with at least 3 years of directly related work experience.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under the company vehicle insurance policy
  • The incumbent must be able to uphold a current State of Alaska driver's license.

Working conditions and physical requirements

Work is both indoors and outdoors. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.

Physical requirements:

The employee must be able and willing to fly in small aircraft.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Competencies

Language skills sufficient to:

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.

Math skills sufficient to:

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning abilities sufficient to:

  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
