YOUR LIFE AS A MEDICAL CENTER SOUS CHEF

As a Medical Center Sous Chef, you supervise our culinary staff in preparing, producing, and presenting a variety of foods. To keep our kitchen operating smoothly, you meet with supervisors and discuss daily menus along with issues that need attention. You assume 100% responsibility for the quality of our products served.

You prepare a variety of proteins such as wild game, seafood, poultry, and vegetables. Whether you're using broilers, ovens, fryers, grills, or other kitchen equipment, you keep sanitation in mind. Our kitchen is always clean and sanitary under your care. When plating meals, you stick to our standard portion sizes and follow proper plate presentation. You thrive in a fast-paced culinary environment, and it brings you great satisfaction to know you excel at doing what you love!


WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have Municipality of Anchorage Food Handler's Card or ServSafe contingent upon 30 days of hire.
  • Must have three (3) years of Sous Chef experience in a commercial kitchen in a food service operation, restaurant, hotel, or hospital.
  • Must have knowledge and training in using a variety of food production equipment.
  • Must be able to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
  • This work location requires COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Must pass a fingerprinting background investigation that complies with The Crime Control Act, Child Care Worker Act, and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
  • Proof of immunization for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox), TB, and any other immunizations and screenings designated in the current ANTHC Employee Health Program for Infection Control in Hospital Personnel.
  • Contract requires candidate to get a flu shot pre-hire and annually thereafter.
  • Contractor may be required to maintain all employee health records on site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of traditional indigenous foods of Alaska
  • Some baking experience highly desired

Weather: Indoor/Outdoor (Occasional exposure to moderate weather)

Noise level: Moderate

Description of environment: This is an industrial hospital kitchen located in a healthcare setting.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
